It’s mushrooms’ time in France! I love a good mushroom soup or just simply roasted. I found those at Deauville’s market, so fresh and smell like earth! Yummy!!!
Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend. One of our afternoon walks was over to the Dekalb Market. I had no idea this fun place was just minutes away from where we live. You would not think it’s a shopping area even if you were a block away. All you see are these big containers. I would even go back just for the delicious mini donuts and joe’s pour over coffee.
I just found this new place that opened super recently in the 9th district in Paris by a girl as sweet as her marmalade: Lise. The place is small but so cute and “design”. You’ll find there hundreds of different kinds of marmalade and jams, check her website/blog (in French only) with her recipes and more. I love a good, hand-made marmalade because it reminds me of how my grandmother made them just for us… What a “madeleine de Proust” as we say in French (something that brings you back to a special memory just by the smell or taste). I can’t wait to take some lessons as Lise told me that she will be offering in her little shop soon!
I have a sweet tooth as you already know. I love chocolate, candies and everything home made. I’m lucky to live in Paris, we’re not short on those but I love this amazing “confiserie” (candy shop) not far from my place: La Mère de Famille! Check out their super cute website, it’s going to make you drool.
With the incredible weather we had few days ago in Paris, I went with my parents for a little “promenade” on the Ile St Louis (very old neighborhood in Paris) where you can find the best home-made French ice cream ever: Berthillon. There is usually a very long line in front and it’s the only ice-cream maker I know that is close during summer…
Finally a cool, modern, yummy bakery in Brea, Ca. We grew up around here and have always longed for a cute place like this. So we were super excited to find out that merely sweets is only minutes away from my sisters place. Jr especially loved the macarons. He did not want to share and actually punched Sr. in the face when he attempted to take a bite. We’ve only been here a week and have since been back 3 times… tried the mocha cupcake, banana pudding, fruit tart, and of course one of each of all the macarons. Serious yummy stuff. We’ll miss you until Christmas!
